Power of Influencer marketing

Image
Generally these days, people are a lot more connected thanks to the the constant stream of social media updates across several platforms. Social media has lead to the rise and success of everyday people, sharing their lives on line, and gaining a substantial following and fame. These people are labeled the influencers, and have become as powerful a marketing tool, if not more, than the traditional celebrity.   I am myself an avid youtube lover and follow several influencers online. It is a fact that i totally agree with, that we find influencers much more relatable and real. They share so much of their lives online, and so we feel we know their vulnerabilities, and sometimes know them as well as you might know a friend. It is this unique quality of trustworthiness, which is difficult to gain from the cautious and savy younger generation, that makes influencers such a powerful marketing tool.   Influencers are quickly becoming an absolute integral part of m...

Audrey Hepburn

Image
If i had to pick one fashion icon it always has been, and always will be Audrey Hepburn. I have always loved her style, look and overall vibe for as long as i can remember, and she has definitely been a kind of muse that i keep coming back to. Being one of the most photographed woman in history i have seen hundreds of photographs of Hepburn and yet they all seem to be flawless. I love her constance sense of elegance and grace, and ability to always seem put together.   photographer Cecil Beaton was just one of the photographers that saw something special in Audrey, and described himself as being transfixed by her "young and sad eyes". There seemed to be a theme in peoples fascination with Audrey, and her rise to success, being around her ability to portray feminine beauty, with childlike innocence. Although this was a great asset to her i discovered that the reason for this innocence came from a very dark vulnerability formed in her childhood. Audrey ...

connotations of fashion - denim

Image
Fashion has different connotations for different people. Wearing a pink jumper as a man and as a woman for example, would mean a very different thing and make different statements to the world.  Although we give the clothes we wear our own personal connotations, we also carry all the connotations that the style of garment has collected over the years or decades. All garments were inspired by something/ an existing garment with its own meaning and history, however with fashion classics such as denim jeans, the connotations are clear and memorable for everyone.  Denim was first used in the 1900s as utility wear strictly for men. A comfortable and practical garment, it still lives up to this connotation and use in a way. In the 50's/60's denim was used as a kind of uniform for rebellious anti establishment youths... And in the 70's jeans where a part of the hippie peace and love movement... In the 80's jeans became sexy and desirable....

Shell jewelry trend

Image
I am a big lover and follower of jewlery, particularly more niche instagram brands.  I would say that my favorite style of jewelry has always been a more natural elements, slightly quirky and weathered look. I think that jewelry that is naturally beautiful and from nature are the most unique and eye catching. So i was definitely on board when this very beachy and organic shell trend of jewellery began spreading through the niche brands and infiltrating high street stores.   Although this trend has been most prominent in the 'main stream' in the colder months, i definitely see it as a nod to summer, and am sure it will continue for at least summer 2019. The natural beauty and organic shapes of the shells with or without some luxe modifications (coated in gold), give a carefree beachy/ holiday vibe to any simple outfit, and contrast well with heavy winter clothes.   The jewelry although simple is still a statement, and has often ...

Are brands the new religion?

Image
Weather we realise it or not, we are always being marketed to in some way or another. Marketing usually involves making promises that the product will in some way better the consumers life, and judging by nearly everything we own being plastered in some kind of branding, we believe these promises. It wasn't until a recent lecture that outlined the 'rituals' of marketing, that i really started to think about our relationships to brands, and how similar it can be to a religion. The four rituals include; exchange (offering a feeling of community, sharing and gift giving), divestment(the feeling of being cleansed when giving things away, and the product being part of our identity), possession(enabling consumer to take ownership of the product making it more personal and decomdifies it), and grooming (the meaningful properties of the product will give customer a higher purpose-confidence, power, happiness)   Not only does the word rituals imply religion, but ...

Brands and charities - cause marketing

Image
Whenever i see a well known brand collaborating, donating or promoting a charity i am instantly more attracted to it. It gives the brand a humaine and kind image, which definitely evokes my trust in the brand and is authenticity, and for sure has an influence on any purchase from them. It turns out i'm not alone with 85% of consumers said to be more likely to buy from brands that support charities than an alternative brand. Balenciaga x with world food programme However great brands working with charities can be it definitely isn't completely selfless, and there is usually some corporate gain. As i have proven myself i am more trusting of a brand after seeing them associated with a charity. This trust makes the business look better, and also makes me as a consumer feel better about purchasing from the brand, all of this coverts to purchase and profit for the brand, a lot of the time more than what they put in to support the charity. Brands also may collaborate with...
